Disability Discrimination
The Equality Act 2010 was written to support people who have a disability and make sure that they are not treated unfairly.
All schools, colleges and other educational settings, and places of work, must change what they do (or were planning to do) to make sure a disabled child or young person is not disadvantaged.
These changes are called reasonable adjustments. What is reasonable for them to do will depend on a number of things.
If you feel that your educational setting, or an organisation, isn’t treating you fairly, or putting in reasonable adjustments to support you, Ask Us Nottinghamshire can support you to talk to them about how you feel, and how this is impacting on you.
Often, educational placements will make these changes if we can talk to them first about the issues arising. Communicating your support needs is very helpful for you and for the setting.
If a setting is refusing to make reasonable adjustments, you may be able to make a claim to the SEND Tribunal.
If you find yourself in this position, please contact Ask Us Nottinghamshire, and we can support you to make decisions about how to change this.
