Exclusions
When it comes to educational settings, there are two types of exclusions:
Permanent exclusion
A permanent exclusion is where a child or young person is told that they cannot come back to the school, college or post 16 learning placement.
Your setting must only issue a permanent exclusion if:
- There has been a serious breach or incident
- There have been several breaches of the setting’s behaviour policy
- Where allowing you to remain in education would seriously harm the education or welfare of the child or young person, staff members, or other students at the setting.
Fixed term exclusion (sometimes called a suspension)
A suspension, or fixed term exclusion, is where a pupil is temporarily removed from the setting. It is an essential behaviour management tool that should be set out within a setting’s behaviour policy.
If you have been excluded from your educational setting, you can contact Ask Us Nottinghamshire for information, advice or support.
